About the book

This fantastic selection of Summer Reads chosen by The TV Book Club has something to suit every taste and mood. What all the books have in common is a page-turning narrative that makes them ideal beach reading.

The Weight of Silence is a compelling story of family secrets that are brought into the open when two young girls go missing; The Help takes the reader to 60s America for an insight into the black maids who raise the children of wealthy white families; Stone's Fall is a panoramic mystery that will whirl you from London in 1909 to Paris in 1890 before ending up in Venice in 1867; Ellis Island tells the story of an Irish-American girl who has to return to the simple, rural life she has left behind. Meanwhile, in The Bed I Made Kate's affair with a stranger leads to a nightmare; The Legacy features two young women who delve deeply into their memories after their grandmother's death and try to work out why their family was torn apart; The Devil's Acre is an intriguing murder story centring on the story of the gun-maker Samuel Colt and finally The Man Who Disappeared finds a woman trying to cope after her husband disappears and she discovers she didn't know him as well as she thought. All in all, these books are perfect for slipping into your suitcase this summer!

"Ellis Island"

by Mary Morison on 25/08/2010

I loved this story as it was so true to Ireland years ago when whole families left Ireland to find work in America.

"An enlightening experience into racial prejudice"

An enlightening experience into racial prejudice. Characters came to life. Full of fun and sadness.
